President – William Smith Jr. CISSP, GSNA, CEH, GPEN, GCFA, GCFE, GNFA, CFR
Bill is currently working as a Cyber Security Analyst / SOC Lead for The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Prior to coming back to APL in December 2008 (he worked there previously for almost 9 years), he worked for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as a Vulnerability & Penetration Tester for 1.5 years. Bill holds an undergraduate degree in Information Systems from Drexel University and a Master’s in Information Assurance from Norwich University. Bill also holds the CISSP, CEH, GSNA, GPEN, GCFA and GCFE certifications.
Bill’s contributions to the ISSA Baltimore chapter have included volunteering on the training committee and serving as a past chapter Treasurer and current President (since 2008). In particular, he’s helped streamline the chapter’s financial operations and oversaw a significant number of changes and clarifications to the chapter bylaws that have taken effect over the past several years. Bill has also assisted in various roles related to the ISSA International conference as well the past few years.
Aside from the ISSA, Bill’s is a member of both the IEEE and Infragard and also a lifetime member of the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. He has served as a past President of his undergraduate chapter and is currently President of the chapter’s alumni association.
Outside of his career / ISSA duties, Bill enjoy spending time with his family and partaking in activities such as archery and playing guitar.
Vice President of Operations – Sidney M. Spunt, CISSP
Sidney has worked in the Information Assurance arena for more than twenty years. He has worked as a Security Architect, ISSO, Certification and Accreditation Analyst, and ISSE. Sidney earned his CISSP certification in January 2009. He works for QSSI as the Chief Security Architect. He is working on a contract with CMS to ensure FISMA compliance.
Sidney has been an active Member of the Baltimore Chapter of the ISSA since January 2009. He assisted with the planning and organization of the Chapter’s InfoSec Summits in 2010 and 2011 and the sunsequent Mid-Atlantic Information Systems Conferences (MAISC). He was also a member of the Steering Committee and co-chair of the Attendee Development and Marketing Committee for the 2011 and 2012 ISSA International Conferences. Sidney actively supports the Chapter’s CISSP Study Groups and regularly leads some of the sessions.
When not working or supporting ISSA, Sidney volunteers as a Paramedic/Fire Fighter for the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company. He has been a Paramedic for the last thirty years. Sidney is also an avid motorcyclist and often cruises around the world searching for new adventures.
Vice President of Outreach – Tom Bakry, CISSP, CISA, PMP
Secretary – Kevin Drury, CISSP
Kevin started his career in network security at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory working on the security watch team. He has also worked at the Army Research Lab as the lead vulnerability scanner and backup HBSS administrator. Kevin currently works for the TSA performing vulnerability assessments for the secure flight program.
Kevin earned an undergraduate degree from University of Maryland University College in Information Systems Management along with a certificate in Information Assurance. Kevin graduated with honors from Capitol College in December 2013 with a masters degree in Information Assurance.
Kevin joined ISSA in 2014 as part of the CISSP study group. He plans to take the exam later this year. Kevin also holds a number of industry certifications such as GSEC, GCED, Network+, Security+, and ACE
Vice President of Membership – Steve Chan, CISSP, PMP
Steve Chan has been an active member of ISSA-Baltimore since early 2008, and has helped Kevin Newman, VP of Education, with the ISSA Baltimore CISSP® Study Group.
Steve graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelors in Biology in 1975 and a Masters in Computer Science in December 1980.
Steve is currently working as an Information Security Officer for the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and has worked in the past for George Washington University, Sun Microsystems, Uniprime Systems, Dataflow Technologies, Computer Products Research Corporation, and Westinghouse Advanced Technology Labs.
Contracting work has been done at Orbital Sciences, Black and Decker, US Bureau of Engraving and Printing, IBM, AT&T, EDS, Paradyne, and numerous other organizations.
Professional work has included both people management and project management in information security, wireless networking systems, IT infrastructure, systems engineering/design, computer service/repair/installation, disaster recovery/business continuity, compliance, benchmarking, and expert witness work under oath in federal procurement cases.
Information Security work has included managing teams that examined and secured computers to protect against identity theft and any violations of GLB, HIPPA, SOX, FERPA, DMCA, PCI/CISP, and CFAA across multiple departments and organizations.
Vice President of Professional Development – Lorenzo Thweatt, CISSP
Lorenzo currently works as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) for Missing Link Security (MLS). He supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the Science and Technology Directorate in his ISSO role at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Prior to working at MLS, he worked as a Senior ISSO for over 7 years at General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems (now General Dynamics Missions Systems).
Lorenzo’s educational background has mainly focused on Information Systems and Security. He has an Associate’s degree in Information Systems Management from Howard Community College. He then earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Decision Information Science (now Information Systems) from University of Maryland at College Park, MD. He followed this up by earning a Master’s of Science degree in Information Assurance of University Maryland University College.
Lorenzo earned his CISSP in September 2011 and he is currently an active member of InfraGard.
Lorenzo has supported the ISSA Baltimore board as a volunteer since March 2015. He also assisted Carol Klessig, the previous VP of Professional of Development, with securing new speakers for monthly chapter meetings. He also helped with managing the speaker line-up schedule. He has identified potential sponsors and personally written to many speakers to attain their support and to thank them for their time. As the current VP of Professional of Development, he plans to keep securing new and talented speakers that will cover interesting topics and modern security trends.
Vice President of Education – Chuck Dickert, CISSP, CISA, CISM, CAPM
Chuck Dickert has been working in the Information Security field since 2002 and earned his CISSP in 2007. He also has the CISA, CISM, and CAPM certifications. He currently works for Veris Group, LLC as a Sr. Information Assurance Analyst providing information risk management services to the Social Security Administration. He has been a member of the Central Maryland chapter of ISSA since 2009 and has been contributing to the chapter’s CISSP study group since 2011 both as a study group leader and as a class facilitator.
Treasurer – Jack Holleran, CISSP, CAP, (ISC)2 Fellow
